ST. LOUIS- The Greyhound wrestling team took a 27-21 win in dual action at #18 Maryville Wednesday night at Maloney Arena.

"It was a tough week for us and for some of our guys to make weight in the middle of the week," UIndy head coach Jason Warthan said. "Maryville was really defensive. This is a good beginning to what will become a great rivalry, even though both teams were banged up tonight."

The teams started the dual tied 6-6, with the Saints forfeiting the 125 match to Josh Kieffer, and UIndy forfeiting the 133 bout to Maryville's Terrell McKinney. Justin Kieffer then put the Greyhounds up 9-6 with a 4-0 win over Tyrell Galloway at 141.

In the 149 match, the Saints took their first lead of the evening, with Keenan Hagerty pinning UIndy's Steven Sandefer in 5:53. Bryce Givens then fell to Joey Moorhouse 2-3 at 157 to put the Greyhounds down 9-15 in the dual competition.

Following a pair of forfeits by Maryville at 165 and 174, UIndy found itself back on top, 21-15. Aaron Stevenson then followed with a 3-1 win at 184 over Ryan Beltz to put the Greyhounds up 24-15.

UIndy closed out the match strong, with wins at both 197 and 285. Kevin Gaughan pinned the Saints' Matt Baker at 197 in 2:33, with Evan Wooding closing out the night with a 3-2 win over Matt Spain in the heavyweight bout.
 
The Greyhounds take on Findlay Saturday at noon at Nicoson Hall to close out the dual portion of their season. The team's seniors will also be honored at the dual.

"We have one dual left. We have some time to heal, and we know what we need to work on," Warthan said. "We are very close to being very competitive in our regional. We have two and a half weeks to tweek some things. I feel good right now, and I think we have a few guys that are in a good position to go wrestle at nationals."
