COLUMBUS, Ohio -
Even though it may be the summer, UIndy junior Trevor Cox is continuing to play and made an impact this weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Summer Circuit event hosted at Ohio State University.

Teaming with Ohio State sophomore Kevin Metka, the duo won the main doubles draw by defeating Jacob Laser and Livingston of Brown on Monday morning. The team won five matches over the three days, including beating a pair of teams from Wright State and one from Ball State.

Cox also competed in singles earning a pair of wins over Alexander Hurtuk of Allegheny and Matthew Wareti of Toledo before falling to the two seed, Julian Childers of Illinois.

Cox has led UIndy in wins during each of his first two seasons on the way to being team MVP as a freshman and sophomore. He is 54-41 combined in singles and doubles over the last two years.

Incoming freshman women's tennis player Allie Smith also competed in Columbus. She lost her first singles match to the top seed, Fidan Manashirova of Ohio State, but then came back to win three matches in the consolation draw.

The final Midwest Region event is July 28-30 at Indiana University with the USTA/ITA National Summer Championships also at IU from August 10-14.

About the ITA Summer Circuit

Nearly 30,000 men and women have competed in ITA Summer Circuit events since it began in 1993. The circuit provides college (and junior and alumni) players the opportunity to compete in organized events virtually year round. Although the primary focus of the circuit is to provide incoming freshmen and collegiate players the chance to compete in the summer months, for NCAA compliance purposes, the events within the ITA Summer Circuit are categorized as "open"; therefore anyone is eligible to compete in these events as long as he/she is a current ITA member.

The ITA Summer Circuit is currently made up of eight regional circuits (East, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, Central, Mountain, Texas and West) consisting of four consecutive open tournaments played during the month of July, leading up to the USTA/ITA National Summer Championships in Bloomington, Indiana in August.
