RENSSELAER, Ind. – The fifth-ranked UIndy women's basketball team (12-3, 5-2 GLVC) closed its three-game road swing with a convincing 90-47 win at Saint Joseph's (1-14, 0-7) Monday night. The road-weary Greyhounds halted a two-game losing streak by shooting a season-high 60-percent from the field.
Eleven Hounds got in the scoring column, with five reaching double figures. One game after scoring her 1,000th career point as a Greyhound, senior
Kristin Turner dropped 20 points on the Pumas, with 13 coming in the second half.
Meanwhile, the UIndy reserves accounted for more than half of the Hounds' lofty point total.
Dajana Jovanovic added 14 points and six rebounds off the bench, while
Shelby Wall scored 12 on four 3-pointers and
Chas Lecher notched season highs with 10 points and eight boards.
Looking for their first conference victory of the season, the Pumas eliminated an early four-point UIndy lead to tie it at 13, but the Hounds conjured a 15-4 run to take a double-digit advantage midway through the first half. Juniors Wall and Lecher contributed six points apiece during the rally.
Later in the half, a long jumper from
Eliza Wortman pushed the margin to 20 at the three-minute mark. There it would stay, settling at 44-22 at the break.
In one of their most productive 20-minute stretches of the season, the Greyhounds shot a blistering 67 percent from the field in the opening period, including a 6-for-11 (.545) output from behind the arc.
Five Hounds had at least six points by intermission, led by nine from Jovanovic.
The Pumas managed the first two buckets of the second half, but UIndy mashed the pedal down again by running off 16 unanswered points and 23 of the next 25 to all but put the game away.
In addition to its season-high field goal percentage, UIndy also set or tied season bests in points, field goals, 3-pointers, 3-point field goal percentage, and assists.
The Greyhounds finally return to the familiar surroundings of Nicoson Hall Thursday when they host GLVC-newcomer McKendree University at 5:30 p.m.
