INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis women's tennis team dropped its season opener to Division I Northern Illinois, 9-0, at the UIndy Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

Alex Covington battled at No. 6 singles to a 6-2, 7-6 (3) decision before falling to Stephanie McDonald and she teamed with Brooke Boyts for a strong showing in doubles. At No. 3 doubles, they fell 8-5 to Cristina Alvarez and Mary Malkin of the Huskies (7-1).

Boyts won five games in her singles encounter at No. 5 against Alvarez before falling 6-4, 6-1.

The Greyhounds (0-1) are back in action with a pair next week at the UIndy Tennis Center against Eastern Illinois on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Lake Superior State on Sunday at 10 a.m.
