2013 AVCA Thirty Under 30
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced the 2013 class of Thirty Under 30 this week and former UIndy student-athlete and assistant coach Kyleigh Gerlach was one of the honorees.
After a four-year playing career (2006-09) that saw the former Kyleigh Turner set the program's career record for digs, the 2009 AVCA All-American moved to the bench and spent the last three seasons (2010-12) as an assistant for the Greyhounds.
UIndy reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament every year of her tenure on the bench, capped by a Midwest Region championship and school record appearance in the D-II final four this season when the Greyhounds went 31-8.
Gerlach is now the top assistant at NCAA Division I VCU, where she remains alongside former UIndy head coach
Jody Rogers who was named the new head coach of the Rams last month.
The AVCA presented the inaugural Thirty Under 30 Awards in 2009. This award was created to honor thirty of the up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in the sport at all levels of the game. Although anyone can make a nomination, the nominee has to be an AVCA member. The inaugural Thirty Under 30 class was announced in the February/March 2009 edition of Coaching Volleyball.
