Men's tennis sweeps to victory in GLVC opener

INDIANAPOLIS –
The University of Indianapolis men's tennis team was in control from start to finish in winning its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener over in-state rival Saint Joseph's, 9-0, at the UIndy Tennis Center on Saturday.

The Greyhounds (3-1, 1-0 GLVC) started by sweeping the Pumas (10-4, 0-1 GLVC) in doubles, led by Alex Poe and Preston Swain first off the courts with an 8-2 win. Trevor Cox and Luke Hubert followed with an 8-4 win at No. 3, while Fausto Cordova and Ryan Frankel finished off an 8-3 win at No. 1.

Frankel kept it going by sweeping Seth Arthur 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, followed by Hubert with a 6-1, 6-0 take down of Joseph Bomben at No. 2. Cordova took a little longer, but was perfect against Danny James with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3.

Poe finished his day 2-0 by defeating Joseph Scott 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and Cox finished shortly after with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 over Reid Imel. Caleb Fellers completed the shut out by winning against Adam Meeker 6-3, 6-1.

The Greyhounds return to the UIndy Tennis Center on Sunday at 10 a.m. for crosstown showdown against Marian (15-4).
