INDIANAPOLIS –
The UIndy women's tennis team had a chance, but couldn't finish in falling to No. 41 Lewis, 6-3, at the UIndy Tennis Center on Saturday. The Greyhounds (4-3, 1-1 GLVC) had their four-match winning streak snapped in the comeback victory by the Flyers (6-3, 2-0 GLVC).

The Greyhounds started well in doubles as Alex Covington and Claire Liles climbed out of an early hole to win 8-5 at No. 3 doubles, while Macey Speer and Rachel Barger prevailed with an 8-4 decision at No. 2. The gave UIndy the lead, 2-1, headed into singles.

"We competed well in the doubles, but I didn't think we executed as well in singles as I thought we would, especially during the important points," head coach Malik Tabet said.

The Flyers evened the match, 3-3, with straight set wins at the top two positions and then took the lead, 4-3, as Megan Nguyen held off Speer for a 7-6 (1), 7-6 (5) win at No. 3 singles.

UIndy still had a chance, but would have to win the remaining three singles matches against the Flyers. Barger kept the comeback alive as she downed Jill Wetmore 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4.

The Greyhounds dropped the opening set with Brooke Boyts at No. 5 and Liles at No. 6, but both players fought back. Boyts won the second set, but then couldn't finish in a third set tiebreaker as Brianna Markgraf won the match for Lewis 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (4).

Liles won her second set, as well, but Kendra Mills responded to win in the superbreaker 6-2, 4-6, (10-4).

"We have a few things we need to fix before the end of the season, but I'm still pleased with how we handled ourselves even though we lost the match," Tabet said.

UIndy takes to the road next weekend for matches Saturday at Bellarmine and Sunday at McKendree.
