GULF SHORES, Ala. –
The UIndy women's tennis team won its third match in a row by dispatching of West Alabama, 6-3, at the Gulf Shores Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds (3-2) started by taking two matches in doubles to stake an early lead, 2-1, against the Tigers (11-4). UWA had only five players, so UIndy automatically earned a point at No. 3 doubles and then added another at No. 1. Taylor Eckert and Allie Smith took the tiebreaker to defeat Natalia Cardenas and Jill Furlong, 9-8.

UIndy's lead increased to 3-1 in singles when West Alabama had to default at No. 6 singles, but that didn't appear to deter the Tigers. UWA won the first set in all five matches against the Greyhounds to put a comeback into to play.

The Greyhounds wouldn't let that occur as a trio of players fought back to win their matches in three sets and secure the win.

Macey Speer defeated Cardenas at No. 2 singles 3-6, 6-0, 6-4, while Eckert won at No. 3 over Furlong 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Brooke Boyts won her match at No. 5 over Shannon McEvoy 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Even Smith at No. 1 singles was able to fight back with a 6-0 win in the second set before falling to Helga Jeske 6-4, 0-6, 6-3.

The Greyhounds will now focus on Great Lakes Valley Conference play when they resume play at home on March 23 against in-state rival Saint Joseph's at 10 a.m.
