INDIANAPOLIS –
The University of Indianapolis tennis teams finished the regular season with Senior Day at the UIndy Tennis Center on Saturday.  The women wrapped up second place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division with a shutout of Southern Indiana, 9-0.  The men fell to No. 40 USI, 8-1, in the other match.

The women (8-3, 5-1 GLVC) started fast on their way to handling the Screaming Eagles (8-9, 3-3 GLVC).  Alex Covington and Claire Liles didn't drop a game in dispatching of their opponents at No. 3 doubles, 8-0.  Taylor Eckert and Allie Smith at No. 1 and Rachel Barger and Macey Speer at No. 2 both raced to 6-1 leads and then held on for the wins.

Eckert was almost perfect at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lindsey White and Speer clinched the victory by defeating Morgan Coquerille 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3.  Allie Smith, the reigning GLVC Player of the Week and Freshman of the Year contender, took a 6-1, 3-6, (10-3) decision at the top singles position.

UIndy kept playing well as Barger finished Ellena Stumpf 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 and Brooke Boyts took a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 against Elizabeth Skinner.  Liles closed the scoring with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5.

Luke Hubert earned the lone win for the men (5-4, 2-3 GLVC) against the Screaming Eagles (13-4, 5-0 GLVC) as they clinched the GLVC East championship.  Hubert knocked off Santiago Lopez 6-1, 6-7 (4), (10-4) at the No. 3 position for the Greyhounds.

Both teams have earned a spot in the 2013 GLVC Tennis Championships being hosted by UIndy at North Central High School next weekend.  The women will play a quarterfinal match at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, April 19, followed by the men playing at 11 a.m.
