BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The UIndy women's tennis team completed the weekend road sweep by downing McKendree, 7-2, on Sunday at the Kings Point Sports Club.
The Greyhounds (6-3, 3-1 GLVC) solidified a hold on second place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Divison by taking care of business against the Bearcats (6-6, 2-3 GLVC). McKendree is not eligible for the postseason this year as they continue the transition process to NCAA Division II.
UIndy started the match with strong play in doubles to win all three matches to take a 3-0 lead.
Taylor Eckert and
Allie Smith won 8-2 at No. 1, while
Brooke Boyts and
Kasey Land also earned an 8-2 decision at No. 3. The Greyhounds finished the streak with an 8-5 win at No. 2 by
Rachel Barger and
Macey Speer.
Smith finished the weekend undefeated with a 4-0 record playing at the top position in singles and doubles by winning 6-4, 6-0 against Adriana Gonzalez.
Speer was nearly perfect at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-0 decision against Nathalia Oliveira, while
Claire Liles won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 against Erika Smith-Thomas. Boyts closed the scoring with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Lauren Putbrese at No. 6.
The Greyhounds finish the regular season at home against Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday at 4 p.m. and Southern Indiana on Saturday at 10 a.m.
