Greyhounds claim back-to-back GLVC All-Sports trophies

All-Time UIndy Athletic Department Success

Final GLVC All-Sports Standings

INDIANAPOLIS -
The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced today that the University of Indianapolis is the 2012-13 winner of the GLVC All-Sports Trophy.  This is the second year in a row that the Greyhounds have topped the GLVC and the fifth time in school history.

The Greyhounds totaled 167.5 points in the GLVC's 18 championship sports behind six conference championships. UIndy out-scored second-place Lewis by 1.5 points and third-place Bellarmine by 14 points.

The GLVC All-Sports Trophy is presented to the institution that demonstrates the best all-around performance in the league's 18 sponsored sports.  Points are allocated based on overall finish in the league standings and finish in the respective sport's conference tournament.

"I'm incredibly proud of our student-athletes and coaches for their success over the past two seasons and excited that the GLVC All-Sports Trophy will remain in our trophy case for another year," Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Sue Willey said. "Our success on the field and in the classroom is no accident because of the dedication our student-athletes have to embrace and excel in the complete NCAA Division II experience."

Besides earning the trophy during the last two seasons, the Greyhounds also won in 2002-03, 1994-95 and 1978-79.

The Greyhounds opened the season by winning the first-ever GLVC football championship in the fall and men's indoor track and field won its fourth consecutive GLVC championship at the on-campus Athletics & Recreation Center during the winter season.

UIndy added four more championships in spring as men's and women's golf both won, with the women winning for the second year in a row.

The men's and women's outdoor track and field teams displayed their dominance by repeating as GLVC champions for the fourth year in a row.  The women actually claimed their fifth consecutive conference crown.

Additionally, the Hounds also posted strong finishes in women's cross country, softball, tennis, and volleyball for third-place points, as well as fourth-place markers in cross country and tennis on the men's side.

"This trophy is truly an award for the entire athletic department because it really is a team effort between coaches and student-athletes with the support and skills of everyone in the administration, in addition to the invaluable service of our athletic training and strength and conditioning personnel," Willey said.

The Greyhounds still have multiple teams alive in NCAA Championship competition as they strive for an all-time high finish in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup. UIndy was fifth last season for the second time in school history and is currently ninth in NCAA Division II after the conclusion of the winter championships.
