Hoops season set to get underway

Men's Basketball:  The Greyhounds officially tip-off the 2006-07 season on Wednesday, hosting Brescia at 7:30 p.m. at Nicoson Hall.  UIndy plays five of its first seven games at home, beginning with the first two non-conference matchups.  James Thompkins led the Hounds in scoring in each of the two preseason exhibitions (at Wright State, at Indiana).

Women's Basketball:  The Hounds host in-region foe Findlay at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday to open the regular season.  Indianapolis play three games this week, opening at home before heading to Ashland, Ohio for the GLVC/GLIAC Classic.  The Hounds will battle host Ashland on Friday night and then will play their third straight GLIAC opponent--Gannon-- on Saturday.   Senior Mandy Geryak led UIndy with nine points in the team's lone exhibition game--at Indiana.

Swimming and Diving:  Junior Valerie Crosby was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Female Swimmer of the Week late Monday.  She followed that by being named the "National Collegiate Division II Female Swimmer of the Week" by CollegeSwimming.com on Tuesday.  Crosby notched UIndy's first NCAA A-cut of the season, etching a 56.76 time in the 100 butterfly.  She was more than three seconds ahead of her closest competition and shaved nearly a second-and-a-half off her previous 58.20 time.  She took second in the 50 freestyle (25.21) and was a part of the winning 400 medley relay squad (4:02.33).  The Greyhounds head to Crawfordsville, Ind. to compete in the Wabash Invitational on Friday.

Wrestling:  Three UIndy grapplers won two of their three matches at the Northwestern Duals on Sunday.  Charlie Pingleton, Mike Horton and Mike Jackson each tallied wins against Cornell College and host Northwestern to give them two wins on the day.  The Greyhounds won the match against Cornell and fell only by a 31-11 score to the Wildcats.  Wisconsin earned the win in the first match of the day.  UIndy heads to the University of Missouri this Sunday for the Missouri Open.
