Greyhounds go 9-0 in opening weekend

Behind nine wins and zero losses, the University of Indianapolis athletic department achieved a perfect opening weekend to the fall calendar.  UIndy volleyball, women's golf and men's and women's soccer all contributed to the festivities.

Volleyball:  Not only did the Hounds not lose a match, they did not squander a single game, winning four matches at the Christian Brothers Fall Classic, all by 3-0 scores.  UIndy dispatched Ouachita Baptist and Montevallo on Friday and swept Southern Arkansas and West Alabama on Saturday.  Head Coach Jody Butera's squad hit a whopping .351 for the weekend, an offense led by senior captain Lynne Ross, who registered 40 kills.

Women's Soccer: Head Coach Drew Roff saw his Greyhounds beat Ashland, 2-1, in overtime on Friday, followed by a 2-0 blanking of Gannon on Sunday.  Freshman Ashley Seehase scored the overtime winner on Friday and Sarah Jones had three goals on the weekend, including both Greyhound goals on Sunday.

Men's Soccer:  John Griffin's team took identical 3-1 wins over in-region opponents Ashland and Gannon.  Brian Fishback talled three goals.  John Higgins, Jon Walker and Diego Lemus all scored goals as well.

Women's Golf: Kristi Piepenbrink fired a two-under 71 to earn medalist honors and lead the Greyhounds to the Tri-State Invitational title.  The Greyhounds' top five golfers were all in the top 20 individually as UIndy edged Ball State by two strokes for the team title.
