The UIndy women will play host to fellow GLIAC foe Northern Michigan while the men welcome Wabash to Ruth Lilly Center Pool. The Greyhound women edged #7 Grand Valley State, 119-112 in a GLIAC dual on Saturday.
Men's Basketball: DeAndre Brock was named the GLVC Player of the Week after he led the Hounds to a pair of wins last week. Brock averaged 21.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game as the Hounds improved to 6-3 in league play. On Thursday, Brock hit four triples en route to a season-high 25 points. He also knocked down all seven of his free throw attempts, four coming in the final :21. He was clutch again on Saturday, scoring six of his team-high 18 points in the final minute of play. He buried a three to give UIndy a four-point lead with just under a minute left and hit 3-of-4 free throws to help ice it. UIndy faces Northern Kentucky and Bellarmine, both of whom are just one game back of the first-place Hounds, this Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Head Coach Todd Sturgeon needs just two wins to reach 150 for his career.
Women's Basketball: Freshman Jessica Canary became the first Greyhound this season to win GLVC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors this season when she picked up the honor on Monday. Canary didn't miss a shot Thursday's win, going 3-for-3 from the floor and hitting both free throw attempts. She finished with nine points, two blocks and a steal. On Saturday, Canary scored a career-high 15 points while adding seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Wrestling: NAIA #8 Campbellsville edged out a 20-17 win over UIndy last Saturday. The Hounds had four wrestlers earn wins in the dual including: John Fleming, Charlie Pingleton, Mike Jackson and Jose Navarro. Jackson earned his 20th career pin in his win on Saturday, leaving him just 4 shy of cracking the top 10 list at UIndy in that category. Pingleton leads the Hounds with 23 wins this season (23-5, 3 pins). The Hounds head to Wheaton on Friday and Saturday.
Track and Field: The track and field teams head to the University of Findlay for a two-day meet beginning on Friday. The Greyhound women finished in second place while the men picked up a fouth place showing at the Wabash College Alumni Invitational held last Saturday.
Baseball: The Greyhounds were slotted sixth in the GLVC Preseason Coaches poll, coming off a 35-24 season that saw UIndy make a return trip to the league tournament. Defending champion Northern Kentucky was selected the favorite to capture the 2007 title. Head Coach Gary Vaught, now entering his 13th season, welcomes back 15 letterwinners from 2006.
Softball: The Greyhound softball team was picked fifth in the 2007 Great Lakes Valley Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, released today by league officials. Defending champion SIU Edwardsville picked up 10 first-place votes to claim the top spot. Head Coach Melissa Frost's team is coming off a record-breaking campaign in 2006. UIndy tallied a 31-19 record and finished fourth in the regular season standings, shattering the previous program mark of 28 victories in a season. The team returns seven letterwinners from last season, including a pair of All-Region honorees.
