  • Won events and established track records in broad jump, high jump, pole vault, 100 and 220 yard dashes
  • Set State Broad Jump record at 22’7” (later jumped 23’1/2”)
  • Took 4th Place in the all-around competition at the University of Illinois Relays 1928; the meet featured many of the best track athletes in the nation
  • A 1949 Reflector quote (reflecting on former ICC stars) said of Smith, “He is considered one of the greatest track men in American history.”
