  • Started wrestling program and was head coach at Franklin Central High School
  • Returned to Indiana Central in 1962 and was the head coach of wrestling from 1962-65, with a record of 62-38.

  • Was a high school athletic official of baseball for six years, football for 25 years, and wrestling for 38 years
  • Served as Greenwood Middle School principal from 1978-93. May 19, 2006 proclaimed Paul Velez day-circular drive at school named in his honor
  • Inducted into Indiana Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 1979
  • Elected as Greenwood city county councilman at-large in 1979 and 1983
  • Received University of Indianapolis "I" Person of the Year Award in 1990
