Greyhounds sweep Marian, 9-0

Freshman Austin Ruddell played in and won his first-ever match for the Greyhounds.

The University of Indianapolis men's tennis team remained perfect by sweeping its Indianapolis neighbor, Marian, 9-0, at the UIndy Tennis Center on Saturday evening.

Christian Nikou and Matt Smith at No. 1 doubles (8-2), Trevor Cox and Alex Poe at No. 2 (8-3) and Michael Bradley and Pete Wilson at No. 3 (8-0) started things off by all winning in doubles for the Greyhounds (5-0) against the Knights (6-9).

The Greyhounds continued to play well in singles as Preston Swain started things off with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Willie Jansen at No. 4 singles. Trevor Cox took the 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles, while Pete Wilson won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and Nick Reinhart was victorious 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.

Caleb Fellers at No. 2 and Austin Ruddell at No. 6 both lost the first set, but were able to fight back and complete the sweep of Marian by each winning in a super tiebreaker.

UIndy returns to the UIndy Tennis Center next Friday at 4 p.m. for a key in-region meeting against Grand Valley State.
