KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) has named UIndy Senior Associate Director of Athletics Lynn Griffin, as one of its eight Administrator of the Year Award recipients.  Joining Griffin are seven other very special women, each of whom has provided outstanding administration in intercollegiate athletics. 

Recipients of the award include Barbara Burke (for work at University of Wyoming-Division I Football Bowl Subdivision), Dr. M. Dianne Murphy (Columbia University- Division I Football Championship Subdivision), Athena Argyropoulos (American University-Division I Non-Football), Dr. Kelly Hart (Springfield College-Division III), Debby DeAngelis (California State University, East Bay-National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics), Beth DeBauche (National Collegiate Athletic Association-Organization) and Tonia Walker (Winston Salem State University-Nell Jackson Award).  “NACWAA is honored to pay special recognition to each of these eight outstanding women for their hard work and dedication to the field of intercollegiate athletics,” said Jennifer Alley, Executive Director.

Griffin is in her sixth year at the University of Indianapolis, recently being promoted to her post as Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Compliance Coordinator and Senior Woman Administrator.  Griffin had been the Associate Director of Athletics, Compliance Coordinator, Senior Woman Administrator, Head Women's Basketball Coach, and Sport Studies Instructor at NCAA Division II St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, North Carolina, since 1998. 

At St. Andrews, Griffin handled all aspects of compliance, chaired the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) Senior Woman Administrators' Committee and Women's Basketball Committee, and served on the NCAA II Regional Advisory Committee.

Prior to St. Andrews, Griffin was the head women's basketball coach and a physical education instructor at the University of South Dakota from 1995-98; and was the assistant women's basketball coach and P.E. instructor at North Carolina-Asheville from 1993-95.  She began her coaching career as an assistant women's basketball coach and exercise and sports science instructor at Tarleton State University in Texas. Griffin earned a master's degree in exercise and sports studies at Tarleton State in 1992.  Griffin earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina-Pembroke, where she competed in women's basketball and softball (1986-1990). 

The Administrator of the Year Award, sponsored by Jostens, is bestowed to NACWAA members whom have made significant contributions as administrators of intercollegiate athletics.  This award, recognizing administrative excellence, is presented annually to a NACWAA member in the following categories: NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision; NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision; NCAA Division I Non-Football; NCAA Division II; NCAA Division III; NAIA/Junior/Community Colleges; Conferences/Organizations; and Nell Jackson Award.  The 2008 Administrator of the Year and Honor Awards Banquet will be held on Monday, October 13, 2008, from 7:00-10:00 PM at the NACWAA National Convention in Atlanta, GA at the CNN Omni Hotel.

ORLANDO, Fla.- The University of Indianapolis finished in fifth place among 232 NCAA Division II schools earning points in the 2008-09 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, released Friday.  The Directors' Cup is annually awarded to the best overall collegiate athletics program in the country, tallying points for an institution's national finishes in up to 14 sports-- seven women's and seven men's.

INDIANAPOLIS-  Three more UIndy students have earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, announced by league officials Friday.  Justin Hueber (men's golf), Lyndsay McBride (women's golf) and Emily Schaf (women's track & field) were each selected for this prestigious award, bringing the total of UIndy Scholar-Athletes this year to six after Brian Fishback (men's soccer), Abby Tracy (women's soccer) and Kyleigh Turner (volleyball) received distinction in the fall.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-  Senior men's golfer Justin Hueber, senior women's golfer Kristi Piepenbrink and junior softball player Megan Russell were named the University of Indianapolis Male and co-Female Athletes of the Year, respectively, for the 2008-09 season.   Hueber was a First Team All-American, helping the Hounds to a tie for sixth place at the NCAA National Championships.  Piepenbrink was tied for fifth individually at nationals as the team advanced past the regionals for the first-time ever en route to a tie for third nationally.  Russell demolished the school's homerun record and helped pitch UIndy to its first DII World Series berth.

INDIANAPOLIS-  The University of Indianapolis is proud to announce that 106 student-athletes have been named to their respective All-Academic Great Lakes Valley Conference teams, released Thursday by league officials.   Student-athletes with a 3.30 cumulative grade point average in a league sport are eligible for the honor.

INDIANAPOLIS- Behind the strength of four league championships and three runner-up finishes, the University of Indianapolis took second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Sports Trophy, which was awarded to Northern Kentucky University for the sixth time since 2000.  UIndy also finished third in the GLVC's Commissioner Cup standings, which feature only the league's "core" sports.
