BAY CITY, Mich.- A pair of Greyhounds earned conference honors, with senior
Isabela Tafur and junior
Manuel Stiem both being named the GLIAC's "Swimmer of the Week" for their performances during the weekend, the league announced Wednesday. Tafur and Stiem's efforts helped the Greyhounds to a third-place finish among a field of Division I programs at the Indiana Intercollegiates Oct. 18.
Tafur registered a pair of NCAA "B" cuts on the weekend, in the team's opening meet of the year, hosted by Purdue University. Tafur took top billing in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.48, and reached the wall in 24.62 in the 50-yard freestyle, good for second place.
Stiem also came away from the Indiana Intercollegiates with a win and a runner-up finish. The junior transfer came in with a time of 1:53.43 to earn a "B" cut and the win in the 200-yard individual medley, and also took an "A" cut on the day with his runner-up finish in the 100-yard breast, touching in a time of 57.06.
The Greyhounds jump back in the pool this weekend, hosting Ashland, Wayne State and Truman State in the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center. The two-day event kicks off Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.
