Volleyball: UIndy grabbed the No. 4 seed in the upcoming NCAA Midwest Regional tournament, set to begin Friday in Allendale, Mich. The Greyhounds are making their second straight NCAA postseason appearance and third in the past six seasons. The Greyhounds draw the No. 5 seed in the eight-team regional, Northern Michigan. NMU and UIndy split two meetings already this season as the Hounds pulled-out a five-set win on Sep. 6 before the Wildcats garnered a 3-0 win during the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge Oct. 17. The three-day regional takes place at top-seeded Grand Valley State. The Lakers will be attempting to defend their regional title from a year ago.
Women's Basketball: UIndy's two wins at the Lady Panther Classic last weekend pushed its record to a spotless 5-0, marking the third time in four seasons the Greyhounds won their first five games. The Hounds notched a 107-75 victory against Midway Saturday at the Owensboro Sportscenter, its first 100-point game in nearly four years and just eight points shy of the program record for points in a game. Indianapolis followed that with a 68-62 win against Ferris State Sunday, a game the Hounds trailed 35-28 at the half. UIndy has a pair of in-region games on tap this week. The team travels to Oakland City, Ind. for a mid-week game versus the Lady Oaks Wednesday night at 7 pm ET before coming home to Nicoson Hall for the 2008-09 home opener versus Tiffin Saturday evening at 5:30 pm.
Men's Basketball: The home schedule got underway Saturday as the Greyhounds posted a 104-65 win over Taylor-Ft. Wayne. Six different Hounds were in double figures scoring, led by senior Jordan Barnard's 16 points off the bench. The Greyhounds dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Falcons, 50-15 while the UIndy bench put up 57 points. UIndy (1-0) heads to top-ranked Findlay Tuesday to begin a stretch where the Hounds play three top ten teams in four games.
Swimming and Diving: The Greyhounds split a GLIAC dual at Ashland Saturday as the women took a 155-125 decision and the men fell, 148-132 to the host Eagles. Isabela Tafur highlighted the day's action, outdistancing the field in the 100 freestyle, earning an NCAA A-cut in the process (51.72). Erica Smith earned an NCAA B-cut time in the 100 butterfly, winning in 58.73. The Greyhound men compete next at Purdue University, this Friday. Both teams will compete at the House of Champions Invite Dec. 5-6 at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in downtown Indianapolis.
Wrestling: The UIndy grapplers officially get the season underway Sunday at the Missouri Open. The Greyhounds return five starters, including national qualifier at heavyweight, junior Lynn Panko. Head Coach Jay Yates is in his sixth season at the helm of the Hounds, leading UIndy to a 20th-place finish at NCAA Nationals last season.
