Paul, Saroff named to All-Region First Team

INDIANAPOLIS- In a vote by the region's sports information directors, Greyhounds Seth Paul and Chris Saroff were named to the 2008 Daktronics All-North Central Region First Team Wednesday.  Paul, a senior at UIndy, garnered the honor at the catcher's spot while freshman Saroff is the first team's third baseman.

Seth Paul led the conference in homeruns (15) and was second in RBI (57) and slugging percentage (.682).  All three statistical totals are among the top 10 single-season sums in program history, with his 15 round-trippers good for the fourth-highest Greyhound total of all time.  Paul's all-region nod is the third major postseason award for the Muncie, Ind., product, as he was also named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference First Team and to the College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 First Team.

As the only freshman on the All-Region First Team, Chris Saroff finished second on the team with a .346 batting average while scoring 36 runs and notching 36 RBI.  The 2008 GLVC Freshman of the Year spent most of his time at third base but also made 11 quality appearances on the mound.  Saroff, a Crown Point, Ind., native, compiled a tidy 1.96 ERA in 18.1 innings while striking out 25 batters against zero walks.  He also had a team high-tying four saves to his credit.

UIndy's two first teamers tied Wayne State for second most in the region, but Saint Joseph's led all teams with five players on the first squad and six in all.  SJC's Blaine Cravens was selected as the North Central Region Pitcher of the Year and Ashland's Ben Minard was tabbed the region's Player of the Year.

Paul and Saroff, along with the 13 other first-team All-Region selections, will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released on Thursday, May 23.
