Final Wheaton Invitational Team Standings
WHEATON, Ill.- The UIndy wrestling team finished in the middle of pack at the annual Pete Wilson Wheaton Invitational Saturday, with
Matt Irwin and
Ethan Harris each taking second place in their respective weight classes. The Greyhounds took 13th in the field of 31 teams overall.
Irwin (pictured) went 4-1 during the event, earning wins in his first four bouts of the day before falling in the 141 championship match. Irwin, the bracket's No. 2-seed, lost 5-2 in the championship to top-seeded Austin Bautista of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Harris took second place after posting a 3-1 record for the two-day tournament. The two-seeded Harris fell to No. 1-seed Adam Kriwinsky of John Carroll in the championship bout, 5-2.
No other Greyhound placed in the event, leaving the team with 42 total points. Wisconsin-Parkside won the team title with 145 points, with Wisconsin-LaCrosse taking second with 133 total points. North Central amassed 125.5 points to take third place.
UIndy will host a pair of dual meets this weekend, first welcoming McKendree to the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Thursday at 7 p.m., and then hosting the University of the Cumberlands Saturday at 1 p.m.
