KENOSHA, Wis.- The UIndy cross country teams each competed in shorter races Saturday as they gear up for the Great Lakes Valley Conference meet in two weeks. The women won the four-kilometer race while the men took second in the five-kilometer run at the Lucian Rosa Invitational hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside.
The women's 4K race had two full teams and two incomplete teams. Indianapolis won the event with a team total of 21. Eastern Illinois logged a 38. UW-Parkside had two finishers and Judson had one runner.
A total of 29 runners competed with UIndy's
Katherine Wilhelm, who came out on top. She was clocked in 14:53 and led throughout the race. Teammate
Stephanie Cave was next best, 18 seconds off the pace at 15:11. There was a 36-second gap to the third place runner, which was Britney Whitehead of Eastern Illinois, 15:47.
Four full teams and one incomplete team took part in the men's 5K race. The University of Chicago was the team winner with a score of 27, nosing out the Greyhounds, who scored 39. California (Pa.) was third with 64.
Unattached runner Mike Mangieri was the individual winner in 15:59, edging out
Mark Martinez by four seconds.
Michael Landy was eighth (16:32) with
Josh Gornall 10th (16:38) and
Andrew Piropato 11th (16:42). Thirty seven runners finished the race.
UIndy's next confirmed race on the docket is the GLVC Championship meet, scheduled for Oct. 24 in Louisville, Ky.
