UIndy tops Quincy 2-1 on Lee's overtime goal

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The UIndy men's soccer team came away with a key victory on Sunday afternoon at Key Stadium, posting a 2-1 overtime victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Quincy University.

The Hawks (6-6-2, 5-4-1 GLVC) scored on the first shot they attempted, as Jake Pittroff fired a shot into the top right-hand corner of the goal off a pass from Jake Wedemeier in the game's 3rd minute.

Freshman Roger Lee evened the score at 1-1 in the 39th minute when he finished a cross from Scott Gyllenborg after the Greyhounds were awarded a free kick just outside the box.  The score would remain tied at the end of the first half of play.

Neither team could break the tie in the second stanza, as each squad saw had their offensive opportunties turned away by the opposing defense.  Indianapolis outshot the Hawks 8-6 in the second half, but Quincy keeper Kyle Dillman stopped all five Greyhound shots he faced to keep the score knotted at 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes.

UIndy attempted all three shots taken in the game's first and only overtime period and appeared to have secured the victory just 21 seconds in, but a shot by Bobby Adkins deflected off the crossbar and out of the Quincy box to keep the Hawks alive.

However, Lee netted his second goal of the contest, and seventh of the season, to give the Hounds a 2-1 victory in 92nd minute when he chipped a ball over the arms of Dillman that was played forward to him by Corey Nelson.

Indianapolis improves to 6-5-2 on the year and 4-5-1 in GLVC play with the victory and will return to action on Friday when they travel to Kansas City to take on Rockhurst.  Kick-off is scheduled for 8:30 PM.
