Lyndsay Callahan garnered Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Player of the Week honors Monday, according to a release by the league. Callahan led the Greyhounds to a 4-0 week, including three wins at the Asics GLIAC/GLVC Crossover last weekend.
As the second Greyhound to earn the weekly award this season, the junior co-captain averaged 2.8 kills and 2.9 digs in 18 sets on the week while registering three double-doubles and falling one kill shy of a fourth. Teammate
Cheneta Morrison earned the season's initial P.O.T.W. nod back on Aug. 31.
Callahan started the week by hitting .345 with 12 kills and 11 digs in a win versus Taylor, the NAIA's 24th-ranked team. The offensive output brought her career kill total over 1,000, making her just the seventh Greyhound to reach the milestone.
Later at 30-team GLIAC/GLVC Crossover, the Hounds were one of four GLVC squads to go undefeated, compiling big in-region wins over 2009 NCAA participants Northern Michigan and Saginaw Valley State and No. 23 Hillsdale.
Callahan opened the event Friday by hitting a team-high .414 with 15 kills & 19 digs against Northern Michigan. She followed that with a 14-kill, 12-dig effort versus Hillsdale, as the UIndy co-captained helped the Hounds come back from a 2-1 deficit to down the 23rd-ranked Chargers.
Callahan and the Greyhounds capped their stay in Lansing, Mich. with another five-set win versus a talented Saginaw Valley team Saturday. Callahan amassed nine kills, 10 digs, three block assists and two aces in the victory. She was rewarded with an all-tourney nod as one of only 12 players- six from the GLVC - to make the Crossover's All-Tournament squad.
The 12th-ranked Greyhounds return to conference play with a pair of GLVC matches at the Ruth Lilly Center this weekend, starting with Bellarmine Friday night at 7 p.m.
