LOUISVILLE- The Greyhound women's cross country squad finished in sixth place overall, while the men's team took fourth at the 2009 Great Lakes Valley Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Bellarmine.
Stephanie Cave (New Albany, Ind./New Albany)'s ninth place overall finish highlighted the UIndy women's day. The freshman Greyhound covered the 6K course in 23:06.99 to break into the top ten by one place.
Katherine Wilhelm (Wabash, Ind./Wabash) finished in 24:05.26 to take 27th as the second-best UIndy runner.
Mark Martinez (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Guilford) was the top Greyhound runner on the men's side, finishing the 8K race in 26:00.66 to take 13th overall. UIndy's Mike Landy came in just after Martinez, crossing the line in 26:01.18 for 14th place in the 123-runner field.
Josh Gornall (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) and
Andrew Piropato (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrup) took 27th and 28th, respectively, overall for the Greyhounds.
Southern Indiana won both the women's and the men's overall competition. Host Bellarmine took runner-up accolades on the women's side, while Drury came in second in the men's competition.
The NCAA Regional race now looms for the Greyhounds. The Regional competition will be held Nov. 7.
