INDIANAPOLIS -- The UIndy men's soccer squad wrapped up their season with a 3-1 victory over visiting Maryville University on Senior Day at Key Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman
Bobby Adkins gave Indianapolis the early 1-0 lead after chipping the ball over Saint goalkeeper Michael Flately who was pursuing a long ball off the foot of Joseph McGuire.
The Greyhounds would take a 1-0 advantage into the locker room after outshooting Maryville 12-5 through the first 45 minutes of play.
Senior
Diego Lemus doubled the UIndy lead with a tally in the 50th minute with another chip shot over the head of the Saint goalkeeper. Fellow senior
Cory Barber was credited with the assist after playing the ball over the Maryville defense to the feet of Lemus.
The Indianapolis lead was pushed to 3-0 on a breakaway goal in the 73rd minute by freshman
Roger Lee, his ninth of the season, off a pass from classmate
Max Marsh.
The Saints would get a late goal by Matthew O'Daniel to prevent the Greyhound shutout and make the final score 3-1.
UIndy keeper
Justin Roberts finished the game with a pair of saves and pushed his final record to 7-6-2 on the season.
Prior to the match, a trio of seniors in Barber, Lemus, and
Mar Wane were honored as part of Senior Day festivities.
Barber finished his career at Indianapolis with four goals, seven assists, and 15 points in 75 career appearances.
Lemus appeared in 71 games and tallied 12 goals, six assists, and 30 points in his four years in a Greyhound uniform.
Wane, who had his season season cut short due to injury, made 54 appearances in his four seasons at UIndy, scoring 11 goals, notching six assists, and tallying 28 points.
With the win, the Greyhounds concluded their season with a final mark of 8-7-2 and a 6-7-1 record in GLVC play. Maryville dropped to 1-15-1 on the season and 1-12-1 in the conference.
