Did you know?: The UIndy volleyball team has two separate 14-game winning streaks this season and lead all of NCAA Division II with 28 wins.
Football: Stephen Geller's 38-yard reception late in the third quarter put UIndy on top for good as the Hounds registered their third straight win, 21-17 over Tiffin Saturday night. The homecoming victory marked the third straight time that the Greyhounds have overcome a second-half deficit to earn a win. Freshman RB Patrick Bourne tallied a career-high 137 yards rushing and the Hounds defense squandered just 163 yards of total offense. QB Rob Doyle recorded his fourth straight game with two passing touchdowns. The Hounds play their final two games on the road, heading to Ashland Saturday before the season finale at Northern Michigan Nov. 7.
Volleyball: A pair of convincing wins upped UIndy's record to 28-1, sweeping past Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky on Friday and Saturday, respectively. With the wins, the Greyhounds have now run-off 14 straight wins twice this season. Owners of the most wins in all of Division II, the tenth-ranked Greyhounds will head west to face Drury on Friday and Rockhurst on Saturday to begin a three-match road swing. Indianapolis remains just one match behind league-leading Lewis at the top of the GLVC standings heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
Men's Soccer: Bobby Adkins, Diego Lemus and Roger Lee all scored to give Indianapolis a 3-1 win over Maryville in its season finale Sunday at Key Stadium. It was a 1-0 loss to Missouri S&T Friday that cost UIndy a shot at advancing to the GLVC tournament. Adkins (10) and Lee (9), both freshmen, led the team in goals this season. The Greyhounds concluded their campaign with a final mark of 8-7-2 and a 6-7-1 record in GLVC play.
Women's Soccer: Led by GLVC Player of the Week Ashley Seehase, the Greyhounds grabbed a pair of wins to closeout their regular season schedule. Seehase tallied three goals and two assists to finish the weekend with eight points, helping UIndy (14-4, 11-3 GLVC) defeat Missouri S&T 3-1 Friday and Maryville 5-1 Sunday. With the wins, Indianapolis earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming GLVC tournament, set to start on Sunday. Wisconsin-Parkside will be the opponent in the quarterfinal round for a noon kickoff at Key Stadium.
Cross Country: The Greyhound men's cross country squad finished in fourth place overall, while the women's team took sixth at the 2009 Great Lakes Valley Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, hosted by Bellarmine. Stephanie Cave's ninth place overall finish highlighted the UIndy women's day. The freshman covered the 6K course in 23:06.99 to break into the top ten. The top UIndy male runner was Mark Martinez, who finished the 8K race in 26:00.66 to take 13th overall. The NCAA Regional race now looms for the Hounds. The Regional competition will be held Nov. 7.
Swimming and Diving: The Greyhound swimming and diving teams welcomed some of the nation's top talent to the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Friday and Saturday, hosting Ashland, Truman State and Wayne State. For the meet, four different UIndy athletes earned NCAA time standards, including one A-cut (Guy Kogel-100 fly). Kogel also added B-times in the 100 and 200 free. Maura Donahue had B-cuts in the 100, 200, 500 and 1000 free while Erica Smith added three "B" times of her own (100 and 200 fly, 200 IM). Austin Biefnes made it a dozen time standards for the Greyhounds with a pair of B-cuts (200 and 400 IM). The Greyhounds compete next at the IUPUI House of Champions Invite Nov. 13-14 at the IU Natatorium downtown.
Men's Basketball: A year after losing six seniors, second-year head coach Stan Gouard strengthened the roster with Division I and junior college transfers for the 2009-10 season. The Greyhound men will look to improve upon their 9-18 record from a season ago, returning one starter in Larry Woods, who averaged 10.3 points and 3.5 rebounds during the 2008-09 campaign. The squad will rely heavily on newcomers, including junior college transfers Darius Adams and DeWann Squires, Division I transfers Nate Blank, Andrew Parrish and Ryan Sims and freshmen Alec Dye and Brian Johnson. The new-look Hounds open their season with exhibitions at Valparaiso (Sunday) and Indiana State (Nov. 7).
Women's Basketball: The fourth-ranked Greyhounds begin a hectic exhibition schedule Sunday, one of three games in a six-day span for Indianapolis. The team heads to Valparaiso to officially get things underway, then play at Notre Dame Tuesday before closing out the exhibition slate Sat., Nov. 7 at Xavier. UIndy returns nine letterwinners from a squad that advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen last season, the first in school history. Head coach LeAnn Freeland begins her third year on the UIndy sidelines, compiling a 46-18 record in that span including back-to-back trips to the NCAA tournament.
