KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The 10th-ranked UIndy volleyball team earned a four-set win at Rockhurst Saturday afternoon, upping its record to a stellar 30-1. The victory not only ensures just the second 30-win season in school history, but also sets a new program mark for most wins with only one loss, trumping the 2007 Greyhound squad that won 29 contests before garnering loss number two.
The Greyhounds came out of the gate quickly, scoring the match's first seven points. The Hounds benefited from four Rockhurst attack errors in that span. The Hawks came back with a run of their own, however, scoring nine of the next 12 to pull within one point.
The opening set remained close the rest of the way. The action heated up after the first tie of the match came at 19-19. Rockhurst took its first lead at 26-25, but UIndy scored two straight to delay the loss. The Hounds fended off two more RU set points before the Hawks (19-12, 8-4 GLVC) finally took the frame 31-29, breaking UIndy's 27-set win streak in conference play.
Indianapolis rebounded from the lengthy opening set to take the second frame 25-22. After trailing 13-11, the Hounds tied it a 14 apiece before slowly outdistancing their hosts the rest of the way.
With respective final scores of 25-18 and 25-21, the third and fourth sets also belonged to the Hounds. UIndy out-hit the Hawks .326 to .000 in a lopsided third set before breaking a 20-20 tie in the fourth to before earning its 30th win.
Four Greyhounds had at least 11 kills with
Courtney Anglemyer leading all players with 15.
Lyndsay Callahan totaled 13 kills and 16 digs,
Hannah Kelzer hit .391 with 11 kills, and
Cheneta Morrison racked up a career-high 59 assists to go with 13 digs.
Next week marks the final week in the regular for the Indianapolis. UIndy (30-1, 11-1) travels to St. Joseph's Tuesday night before wrapping up the season at home versus GLVC-newcomer Maryville Saturday, Nov. 7.
