INDIANAPOLIS - For the second time this season, the UIndy women's soccer team downed Wisconsin-Parkside by a 1-0 margin. This time it was in postseason play as the Greyhounds topped the Rangers in a GLVC Quarterfinal contest at Key Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
In an evenly played first half, both squads fired five shots, but were unable to tally a goal. UIndy goalkeeper
Shae Morris collected three of her four saves in the first stanza to keep the Rangers off the board and keep the game knotted at 0-0 through 45 minutes.
Indianapolis would break the scoreless tie in the 66th minute after the Greyhounds countered an attack by Parkside and finished an offensive attack of their own. Freshman
Shelby Spinelli started the counter by dribbling past a Ranger defender near midfield and playing a ball from the right wing to the center of the pitch to a streaking
Ashley Seehase who chipped the ball over the head of the pursuing Parkside keeper and into net. The goal was Seehase's 10th and the assist was the seventh for Spinelli.
Seehase nearly added another goal later in the contest as her shot from just outside the box deflected off the crossbar in the 75th minute.
Parkside mounted an offensive charge late in the match, but saw their best second half scoring opportunity turned away by the UIndy defense after the Rangers failed on covert on a corner kick with 1:24 remaining.
Morris earned her eight shutout of the 2009 campaign after turning away four shots and improving her goals-against average to 0.77.
The Hounds improve to 15-4-0 with the victory and will move onto the GLVC Tournament Semifinals to face Northern Kentucky in Highland Heights on Friday at a time yet to be determined. Wisconsin-Parkside drops to 12-3-3 with the loss and will await the NCAA Tournament selections to see if their season will continue.
