INDIANAPOLIS-  The Greyhound men's basketball team opened its regular season schedule with a 79-60 win over Mount St. Joseph's at Nicoson Hall Sunday evening.  UIndy (1-0) used a 24-4 run in the second half to pull away and post the win.

The Hounds took an early 8-3 lead on six quick points from DeWann Squires.  With the lead at 13 late in the first half, the Hounds got back-to-back buckets to take their largest margin of the opening period.  Darius Adams grabbed an offensive rebound and slammed home a dunk and then Paul Corsaro stole it on the other end and got it ahead to Devin Knight on a fastbreak.  Knight's layup was off but Andrew Parrish tipped it in for an 38-21 advantage.  MSJ would closeout the half on a 9-0 run to slice the margin down to eight at the break.

The Lions got to within six, but the Greyhounds made sure it got no closer.  Sergey Struck sparked a 7-0 run with a conventional three-point play.  A pair of threes from Ryan Sims and another from Adams helped Indianapolis to the long stretch that saw the Hounds outscore the visitors 24-4 midway through the period, helping the Hounds pull away.

The Mount's leading scorer Michael Romes had dunks on back-to-back possessions to get his team back to within 13.    The Greyhounds would then score the next seven points, the final two in the run coming on an emphatic slam by Adams on the run, as he crashed into the padding underneath the hoop and sent the home crowd into a frenzy.

Squires ended the night as the leading Greyhound scorer, pouring in 18 points in his first game as a Hound.  Struck added 18, Adams 16 and Sims had 13 for Indianapolis.

UIndy will head to Carbondale, Ill. for a battle with the Southern Illinois Salukis on Tuesday.  Tip time is slated for 8:05 p.m. Eastern time.

Notes:  UIndy outrebounded the Lions 44-27 ... All 12 Greyhounds that dressed saw action ... The trip to SIU will be a homecoming of sorts for both UIndy assistant coaches, Aundrey Wright and Collin Lanam.  Both coaches were part of the Salukis' staff last season.
