CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.- The UIndy men's swimming team took first while the Greyhound women were third at the Patrick Woehnker Invitational Friday and Saturday at Wabash College. NCAA-qualifying times were abundant at the meet as Indianapolis registered at least one cut in 17 of the 36 events contested.
The Greyhound men scored 606 team points to edge runner-up Carthage College (599.5). UIndy's women collected 605 points and took third behind winner DePauw (691) and Wheaton (629).
The automatic qualifiers at the meet for UIndy included the 800 free relays for both squads,
Austin Biefnes in the 400 IM,
Meghan Donahue's 100 and 200 back,
Erica Smith's 100 and 200 fly,
Guy Kogel in the 100 fly and the women's 200 free relay. A whole slew of NCAA B-cuts were generated at the meet as well with 14 different UIndy times meeting the standard.
In addition, four Greyhound women also achieved a B-cut with their collective efforts in the medley events. Though no 400 medley relay was held, the add-up times of Me. Donahue (100 back),
Jaclyn Luscomb (100 breast), Smith (100 fly) and
Maura Donahue (100 free) earned the quartet a time of 3:54.95 to just qualify.
17 of the events were won by Greyhound swimmers as well led by
Baris Ilhan, who took home top honors in three events: 1650 free, 500 free and 200 free.
Biefnes,
Meghan Donahue, Smith and Kogel all won two individual races.
The event was the final fall semester meet for the Greyhounds and they will be back in action Jan. 8-9 for the annual UIndy Invite at Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Pool.
