BOCA RATON, Fla.- The fourth-ranked UIndy women's basketball team wrapped up its trip to Florida with a 67-51 win against Lynn at the de Hoernle Center Friday afternoon. Both teams entered the game undefeated, but it was the Greyhounds that remained that way, upping their record to 9-0 behind a season-high 21 points from
Jessica Canary.
Lynn (7-1), who is receiving votes in the latest
USA TODAY ESPN D-II Coaches Poll, came into play with a spotless 7-0 mark, but the Knights put up only 17 points in the first half and trailed by double digits for the final 27 minutes of play.
Lynn went on to double its first-half output with a 34-point second half, but UIndy kept full control of the game by shooting nearly 60% from the fieid in the latter period, including hitting seven of 10 second-half 3-pointers.
In one eight-minute span in the second half, the Greyhounds put up 21 points to stretch the margin to 20. The spurt saw the Hounds go 8-of-10 from the floor, with four players combining to hit five triples; two from Canary, and one each from
Katie Dewey,
Heather Gonser and
Nickole Gonser.
Friday marked Canary's second 20-point game of the season, as the all-conference guard hit half of her field goal attempts while adding five rebounds and five assists. Dewey filled the box score with 14 points, eight boards, six assists and five steals. Fellow-guard
Cayla Keegan also grabbed eight rebounds to set a new career best.
After an 11-day break from competition, the Greyhounds host one more non-conference game before resuming their GLVC schedule. UIndy faces Christian Brothers Wednesday, Dec. 30, with tip-time from Nicoson Hall scheduled for 2 p.m.
Notes: UIndy's 9-0 start is the second best in program history (11-0 in 2007-08)…Lynn went 0-for-10 from behind the arc, the first time a Greyhound opponent failed to hit a single 3-pointer in a span of 35 games (Grace, 11/28/08).
