Greyhound Club breaks records in 2009 calendar year

INDIANAPOLIS- The University of Indianapolis department of athletics and the Greyhound Club are proud to announce the rousing success of the recently-completed auction and membership update for the 2009 calendar year. In its 12th year of existence, the Greyhound Club continues to provide support for all 21 UIndy varsity sports with the help of nearly 1,500 members.
"I'm extremely pleased we were able to reach our goal of $10,000 for the annual Greyhound Club Online Auction," said Matt Donovan, Associate Athletic Director for Development. "I would like to thank Carla Cranny, Graduate Assistant for Athletic Development, for managing such a great event and I'm grateful to everyone who supported, helped and participated in this annual fundraiser. The proceeds from this activity will enable the Greyhound Club to help with a variety of projects for the department and assist our outstanding student-athletes. Again thanks to everyone for their willingness to help."
This past year, the Greyhound Club surpassed the $500,000 mark for overall revenue for the entire athletic department. That number includes gifts made to the Greyhound Club, sponsorships, gifts-in-kind and capital gifts. The half-million mark was achieved in large part by the 1,482-member Greyhound Club, a number that surpassed goals of the Greyhound Club's Board of Directors.
"It is truly amazing in the economy we are in to surpass the membership goal we established," said Donovan. "This record is indicative of the support we are fortunate to have for the Greyhound Club and our student-athletes. All of us involved with the Greyhound Club are grateful to everyone who supports our mission."
For comparison, the Greyhound Club was established in 1997 and had a meager 133 members that helped contribute $33,000 toward UIndy athletics. While the numbers are more than ten-fold of that first year, the goals continue to trend steadily upward.
"Our ultimate goal would be to acquire 2,000 members and we hope we can surpass that record sometime soon - so we certainly encourage all alumni, parents and friends to consider making a gift and getting involved with the Greyhound Club so we may continue our success."
