UIndy athletes continue to post high academic marks

INDIANAPOLIS-  The University of Indianapolis athletic department announced that its student-athletes combined for a 3.152 grade point average for the Fall 2009 semester.  That total brought the cumulative GPA for the over 500 student-athletes to 3.118.

"UIndy student-athletes understand their academics are a top priority," UIndy Director of Athletics Dr. Sue Willey said.  "It is very rewarding to see them excel in the classroom as well as in their sport."

Leading the way again was the UIndy women's golf team, a squad that posted a 3.707 fall GPA.  The fifth-ranked Greyhounds have found success on the course, but get it done in the classroom too, combining for a 3.653 cumulative GPA.

The highest men's team Fall GPA belonged to the men's tennis team, who logged a 3.367 GPA.  That total narrowly edged-out the 3.362 posted by the men's soccer team.

All told, 13 of the 19 varsity sports posted a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher.  All 13 of those teams also maintain a cumulative mark above the 3.0 mark as well.
