FALMOUTH, Ky.- After sitting five strokes back of first place through one round, the University of Indianapolis men's golf fired a nine-under 279 in the second and final round of the Northern Kentucky Spring Invitational Sunday to easily top the 15-team field. Individually, senior
Justin Hueber and sophomore
Blair Webb carded matching 141s to finish in a three-way tie for first at the two-day event held at Pendelton County Country Club in Falmouth, Ky.
The Greyhounds' 279 Sunday was far and away the best team score of the tournament, allowing UIndy to leapfrog Grand Valley State for first and finish a comfortable 10 strokes ahead of the region-heavy field.
Hueber (72-69) and Webb (73-68) were two of four Greyhounds to shoot under par Sunday, as
Seth Fair and
Aaron Monson each carded 71s in the final round. Hueber and Webb shared medalist honors with Bellarmine's Kyle Leach, while Fair (144) and Monson (148) tied for eighth and 15th, respectively.
Senior
Kyle Pearson rounded out the team scores as his 152 shared 33rd place among the 92-player field. Junior
Kyle Miller finished third among the 17 individual competitors, as his two-day score of 150 tied for 23rd overall.
Indianapolis heads to Muscle Shoals, Ala. next week for the North Alabama Spring Classic Mar. 30-31.
Note: The three-way tie for the individual medal remained unsettled, as a playoff was not held due to darkness.
