The UIndy women's tennis team scored a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference wins this past weekend with a 5-4 decision at Missouri-St. Louis and a 5-1 win at Quincy. The Hounds have now won three straight in sit in fourth place in the league standings.
Saturday's win over the Tritons was on the strength of UIndy's lower half of the singles lineup. The Hounds won at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 to garner the win after taking two of the three doubles matches.
Alena Perez-Majul,
Meghan Teunis and
Aly Neidlinger were each straight-set winners at four through six, respectively. Neidlinger and
Megan Farley grabbed a win at No. 2 doubles while
Kelsey Hartman and
Ceciley Starkey took the No. 3 doubles match.
Sunday's win at Quincy started similarly with UIndy gaining a 2-1 lead through the doubles. Perez-Majul and
Maggie Ashby won at top doubles and Teunis and
Lee Matthews were victorious at No. 2. In singles play, Matthews blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 while Farley (No. 1) and Teunis (No. 5) grabbed the other wins to get to the deciding fifth team point.
UIndy (8-6, 3-1 GLVC) battles the top squads in the league this week when it hosts Drury and Rockhurst on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The matches are each scheduled for 10:00 a.m. starts at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind.
