UIndy battles D-I schools at Midwest Shootout

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- Fresh off cracking the top ten in the Golf World/NGCA Division II Poll, the 10th-ranked University of Indianapolis women's golf team placed fifth among 11 teams at the D-I heavy Ladies Midwest Shootout at Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind. Saturday. Junior Lyndsay McBride led the squad by tying for seventh individually.

Saturday's field featured eight NCAA Division I squads and seven in-state schools with a formt that allowed for four of six individual scores to count, as opposed to the usual four of five.

McBride's showing marked her seventh top-ten finish of the year, as her 153 was just six strokes off the lead. Classmate Sarah Prascsak rebounded from a first-round 85 with a three-over 75 in the final round to jump up to 16th place, senior Kristi Piepenbrink went 80-82 to share 23rd place, and junior Ashley Seaton carded a 169 (82-87) to tie for 28th.

Freshman Darin Pinnick secured 44th by carding scores of 92 and 88, and sophomore Allison Tyler placed 54th with a two-round tally of 186.

Purdue's Maude-Aimee LeBlanc fired the event's only under-par score with a second-round 71 (-1). LeBlanc's final score of 147 topped the field by two strokes to earn her the medal.

UIndy has one final tune-up before the GLVC Championship Apr. 26. The Hounds head to Indy's west side for the St. Francis Invite at Brickyard Crossing Saturday and Sunday.

Note: The Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex was the host site for the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf Championships and will be the site of the upcoming Big Ten Women's Golf Championships April 24-26.
