LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Host Bellarmine pulled-off a tight 5-4 victory in the Great Lakes Valley Conference season finale for both teams Sunday. With the match all square at 4-apiece it all came down to No. 5 singles where BU's Sathi Reddy was able to earn victory for himself and subsequently his team.
The Hounds (13-10, 5-4 GLVC) took a 2-1 lead into singles play after a pair of 8-5 doubles wins at both No. 1 and No. 3. BU turned the tables in singles play, winning both the top two and bottom two matches in the singles lineups.
Kyle Prow looked on his way to an easy win at No. 3 singles, winning the first set 6-0. He dropped a close decision in the second set, 6-7, but rebounded to get the win with a 6-3 win in the decider.
Matt Smith had a similar fate at No. 4 singles winning 6-4 before a 2-6 loss to tie the match. He won with a decisive 6-1 win in the third set.
The Greyhounds and Bellarmine will square off again this Friday in the opening round of the GLVC tournament. BU qualified as the four seed with the winner advancing to play the winner of top-seeded Drury and Lewis in Friday's semifinal round.
