INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced its baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Monday, with a Greyhound taking both awards. Senior
Ben Sondgeroth hit four homeruns last week to earn position player honors, while junior
Cory White garnered two victories on the hill to receive pitcher accolades.
Sondgeroth became the first UIndy position player to take the GLVC Player of the Week Award this season after compiling a lofty 1.188 slugging percentage in four games last week. The Greyhound clean-up hitter notched a pair of three-RBI games to help Indianapolis split the series at Saint Joseph's.
On the season, Sondgeroth leads the GLVC in slugging percentage (.715) and RBIs (46) and is second in the conference in home runs (10). He is hitting .366 with 11 doubles and 36 runs scored.
Pitcher Cory White picked up two wins Saturday, first by pitching the final two innings of a game continued from Friday after being suspended due to darkness, followed by a complete-game shutout in the next contest.
He scattered nine hits and struck out six in his start to rack up his fourth complete game and league-leading eighth win. White ranks second in the league in ERA (1.57) and fourth in strikeouts per game (11.2).
UIndy (29-16) is currently third in the GLVC East Division with an 11-5 divisional record. The Greyhounds travel to former GLVC-member SIU Edwardsville Thursday before hosting UW-Parkside this weekend.
