INDIANAPOLIS- Four Greyhounds registered top-ten performances to help the UIndy women's golf team to a runner-up finish at The Battle at the Brickyard Saturday and Sunday. Senior
Kristi Piepenbrink finished with a nine-over 153 to share third place at the six-team event hosted by St. Francis University at Brickyard Crossing over the weekend.
After a nice day Saturday, the teams battled rain all day Sunday. UIndy handled the conditions relatively well with a round-two low score of 311. Lindsey Wilson College had a great Saturday, however, to take the team title with a two-round score of 622.
LWC's Krista Burton (73-77) grabbed the individual crown, followed closely by teammate Jessica Smith (76-76). Lindsey Wilson is the 12th-ranked team in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Piepenbrink (76-77) notched her fifth top-three effort of the year Sunday, finishing three strokes back of the medalist's spot. Junior
Lyndsay McBride followed an 81 Saturday with a one-over 73 Sunday to earn the fifth place. Junior
Sarah Prascsak carded scores of 81 and 78 to finish in seventh.
Freshman
Darin Pinnick (82-85) and junior
Ashley Seaton (86-83) rounded out the team scoring for UIndy, while sophomore
Allison Tyler shot 85 and 78 as an individual competitor, good for a share of ninth.
UIndy enters its championship stretch, starting with the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Apr. 26-27. The league's 11 teams travel to Marion, Ill. and Kokopelli Golf Course Sunday and Monday.
