NCAA Division II Men's Tennis tournament
INDIANAPOLIS- The Greyhound men's tennis team has earned a berth in the NCAA tournament as the brackets for the 64-team tournament were released late Wednesday night. Head Coach John Venter, in his first full season leading the Greyhound men, has brought the UIndy squad back to the NCAA regional for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
UIndy (13-11) qualified as the No. 7 seed in the Midwest Region. The region is split into four teams apiece for the first two rounds of the tournament. Rockhurst, the No. 2 seed and Great Lakes Valley Conference champion, will host the Greyhounds in the opener. The winner will advance to play either third-seeded Drury or Northern Kentucky, the six seed.
The regional happens to be split evenly across conference lines this season. The top half of the Midwest bracket features all four GLIAC schools at top-seed Northwood. The host Timberwolves battle Michigan Tech while Ferris State and Grand Valley State round out the regional field.
Regional action takes place May 7-8 or 8-9 with the winner of each preliminary-round tournament advancing to the finals in Altamonte Springs, Florida, hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission and Rollins College, May 13-16.
