Three UIndy golfers named All-American Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. – University of Indianapolis golfers Seth Fair, Justin Hueber and Kyle Pearson were among the 37 men named Division II Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, announced Thursday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).  UIndy was one of only three schools to place a D-II-leading three student-athletes on the list, joining St. Edward's University and fellow-GLVC-school Lewis University with the most.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II and NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in Division I, II and III and 3.5 in NAIA. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

As the UIndy men's golf team's only seniors this past academic year, Justin Hueber and Kyle Pearson led the Greyhounds to their second straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship.  After an eighth-place showing at last year's finals, the Hounds tied for sixth in the nation this past May.

Pearson, a three-time Academic All-GLVC honoree, garnered his first all-conference recognition this year after averaging a career-low 74.8 strokes per round.  He finished with three top-10 showings in 2008-09, including sharing runner-up honors at the Division-I heavy Butler Fall Invitational Oct. 7.

Meanwhile, Hueber finished one of the most decorated careers in program history.  A two-time GLVC Men's Golfer of the Year, Hueber broke his own school record with a 71.1 scoring average this season, on the way to six tournament wins, including the 2009 GLVC Championship.  He earned his third All-American nod from the GCAA in 2009 by making the nine-player First Team.  His career scoring average of 72.6 also marks a UIndy record.

As a junior in 2008-09, Seth Fair will represent UIndy's top returner this fall.  Fair garnered his second straight All-Region nod from the GCAA this past season after racking up three top-five finishes and a win at the aforementioned Butler Fall Invite.  His 73.1 scoring average earned him an impressive winning percentage of over .800.
