McBride, Prascsak shine in summer tournaments

INDIANAPOLIS- University of Indianapolis golfers are enjoying continued success this summer, perpetuated most recently by incoming seniors Lyndsay McBride and Sarah Prascsak.  Prascsak became a back-to-back Fort Wayne women's city golf champion last week while McBride qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship a day later.

A National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) First Team All-American, Lyndsay McBride shot a three-over 74 at Wood Wind Golf Club in Westfield, Ind. July 21, good for a share of fourth.  Accompanied by her caddy and coach Ken Piepenbrink, the 2009 NCAA D-II individual national champion was one of just eight golfers from the Westfield sectional to secure a spot in the upcoming U.S. Amateur.

Nora Lucas (Glenville, Ill.), a sophomore at the University of Illinois, won the sectional qualifier with a two-under 69 at the 6,200-yard par 71 course, four strokes ahead of the field.

McBride will join Lucas at the prestigious U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, first competed for in 1895.  The event will be held Aug. 3-9 at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis.  Click here to view the tournament's official webpage.

A day earlier, McBride's Greyhound teammate Sarah Prascsak also had a big day on the links, taking her second straight Fort Wayne Women's City Golf Championship.  A graduate of Fort Wayne's Bishop Dwenger High School, Prascsak scored a 219 at Brookwood Golf Club to edge 2007 champ Camie Mess by a single stroke.

Prascsak entered the last day with a four stroke lead, but a three-over 40 on the front nine gave the field a chance.  The All-Great Lakes Valley Conference performer came up big on the final hole, however, by stroking a long eagle putt within inches of the hole, giving her a tap-in for bird and avoiding a playoff.

After taking the 2009 GLVC title and tying for third at the NCAA D-II Championships this past spring, the UIndy women's golf team opens its 2009-10 campaign Aug. 29-30 in Angola, Ind. at the Trine University Fall Invitational.
