Men's basketball announces staff, schedule

INDIANAPOLIS-  UIndy Head Men's Basketball Coach Stan Gouard officially announced the 2009-10 schedule and the completion of his coaching staff with the additions of Aundrey Wright and Collin Lanam.  Both coaches come to UIndy after being part of the Southern Illinois staff last season.

Wright was the Salukis' Director of Basketball Operations for the past two seasons.  A 1997 graduate of SIU, Wright worked his way up the coaching ranks with stints as an assistant at Carbondale High School (1994-97), St. Louis Community College-Meramec (1997-2000), Erskine College (2000-01), California University of PA (2001-02), Georgia College & State University (2002-03) and Missouri Southern State (2003-07) before returning to his alma mater.

Wright has handled all facets of a program, including game and practice coaching, recruiting, scouting, community relations, pre-season conditioning, summer camps, scheduling and marketing.

Wright earned his bachelor's degree in health education from SIU in 1997 and a master's of education from Missouri-St. Louis in 2000. He and his wife, Tamra, have a son, Austin.

Lanam worked as the graduate manager for the SIU men's basketball team this past season.  He is a 2006 graduate of Wabash College and is a graduate of Crawfordsville (Ind.) High School, where he was the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant in the 2005-06 season.  He also was an assistant for the post graduate team at Lee Academy (Lee, Maine) for one season (2006-07).  His experience also includes a host of basketball camps, from Reebok and Nike camps last summer to stints at college camps in Purdue, Baylor, Texas and Southern Methodist.

Both coaches will get a chance to return to Carbondale, Ill. early into the Greyhounds' 2009-10 season.  The Salukis will host the Hounds in the second game of the regular season, one of three NCAA Division I opponents appearing on the slate.   Exhibitions at Valparaiso (Nov. 1) and Indiana State (Nov. 7) get the season underway followed by the official season opener against College of Mount Saint Joseph on Nov. 14.

The home schedule consists of 15 games, headlined by NCAA D-II defending national champion Findlay heading to Nicoson Hall on Nov. 21.  Other highlights include the opening of the Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule on Dec. 3 against Northern Kentucky and six straight home games from Dec. 15 to Jan. 4.  The run starts with Cincinnati Christian on Dec. 15 followed by in-region tilts against Lake Erie (Dec. 19) and Saginaw Valley State (Dec. 22).  Robert Morris will serve as the final non-conference game before the league slate reopens with Quincy and GLVC-newcomer Illinois-Springfield on Jan. 2 and 4, respectively.
