#8 Women's Golf: The eighth-ranked University of Indianapolis women's golf team picked up its second straight team title Sunday with a convincing 16-stroke win at the Missouri-St. Louis Midwest Shootout. The Greyhounds' collectively carded a 300 in the second round, tying the program mark for lowest 18-hole team score. Senior Lyndsay McBride again led the Hounds with a fourth-place showing, carding scores of 75 and 74 to land at five over par and giving her three wins and five top-five finishes in UIndy's five fall tournaments. The Greyhounds will compete in town for the first and only time this academic year when they tee it up at the Butler Fall Invitational at Eagle Creek Golf Course Oct 5-6.
#12 Volleyball: The 12th-ranked volleyballers took a pair of road matches at Missouri-St. Louis and Missouri S&T last week. In the UMSL win, UIndy recorded a season-high 92 digs, including a combined 67 from Kara McCarthy, Amy Oldenburg and Kyleigh Turner, with McCarthy's and Oldenburg's totals – 21 and 13, respectively – representing career highs. Against the Miners, Kourtney Crawford hammered home a personal-best eight kills while fellow freshman Kristina Kerrigan led all players with 13 finishes to put the Hounds' mark at 17-1 for the season. Indianapolis hosts Illinois-Springfield and Quincy this week.
#13 Men's Golf: Thirteenth-ranked UIndy carded a 304 on day two to take third place at the Ken Partridge UIndy Invitational/NCAA D-II Preview at Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. Monday and Tuesday. Individually, Seth Fair finished tied for third, carding rounds of 76 and 74. The Invite features 18 of the top Division II programs playing at the home site of the 2010 NCAA D-II Championships in May.
#15 Women's Soccer: Sophomore Lauren Soza's double-overtime goal broke a scoreless tie and lifted UIndy to a 1-0 win at Saint Joseph's Sunday afternoon. Earlier in the week, the 15th-ranked Hounds fell 4-1 to Grand Valley State, who were ranked fourth in the nation at the time. Indianapolis is tied atop the GLVC standings, sitting at 5-1 in league play, 8-2 overall and will play a big weekend, traveling to Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis on Friday and Sunday, respectively, in key league matches.
Men's Soccer: The Greyhound men's soccer team got back on track by earning a 2-0 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent St. Joseph's College on Sunday afternoon in Rensselaer. Freshman Roger Lee and senior Cory Barber each netted goals and Justin Roberts made three saves in net to up the Greyhounds' record to 4-3-2 and 2-3-1 in conference play. UIndy will return to action on Friday when they travel to Wisconsin-Parkside to take on the Rangers before concluding the roadtrip Sunday at Lewis.
Football: 19th-ranked Saginaw Valley State used a 17-0 second half scoring surge to earn a 34-13 win over the Greyhounds Saturday. Sophomore Mike Dum led the defensive effort for UIndy, amassing a career-high 15 total tackles, nine of those coming in the first quarter alone. The Hounds will four four of their final six games on the road, beginning with a two-game swing in Michigan. Indianapolis will play its first day game of the season when it visits Northwood at noon Saturday in Midland, Mich.
Men's & Women's Cross Country: The teams enjoyed a week off and will prepare for the Seal Earl Lakefront Classic, an annual event near Lake Michigan in Chicago. In their last outing, the harriers competed at the annual Indiana Intercollegiates at Indiana State University. Katherine Wilhelm led the Greyhound women, placing ninth individually and helping UIndy to a fourth-place finish as a team. On the men's side, UIndy took sixth in the field of 14 and was paced by Josh Gornall, who traversed the 8-kilometer course in 26:15, good for a fourth-place showing.
Men's Tennis: The men's tennis team opened its 2009-10 season at the Wilson/ITA Regional Friday at Northwood University. The tournament was an individual-based event with no team results taken. The highlight was sophomore Jeff Price, who won the only set in singles play for the Hounds. He led 6-3 after the first set, but dropped a 7-6 (5) second set to force a deciding third set. There, Wayne State's Eric Szydlowski was able to post a 6-3 win to take the match. UIndy takes to the court this weekend, playing at Taylor Friday and at cross-town IUPUI Saturday.
