UIndy 3, California (Pa.) 0

FLORENCE, Ala.- Already the school's all-time leader in the category, University of Indianapolis senior Kyleigh Turner became the first Greyhound ever to surpass 2,000 career digs Friday at the North Alabama Classic.  The milestone came in the first of two Greyhound victories on the day, as the 20th-ranked Hounds downed the host Lions in four sets before sweeping California (Pa.).

MATCH 1
Turner needed just three digs to reach the 2K mark.  She had four scoops in the first set only on the way to 18 for the match.

After North Alabama took the opening set, Indianapolis went on to win each of the next three.  Kristina Kerrigan, Courtney Anglemyer and Cheneta Morrison all had at least four kills in the fourth set, helping UIndy to a .326 team hitting percentage in the productive final frame.

The Lions (1-4) trailed 22-20 late in the first but scored four straight to take control.  A kill from junior co-captain Lyndsay Callahan halted the surge, but a Greyhound service error followed to seal the win for UNA.

The Greyhounds opened the subsequent set with a 6-0 run behind the serve of Turner.  North Alabama did not get closer than four from that point, as the Hounds went on to the 25-18 win.

A close 25-23 third-set win pushed put the Greyhounds one set away from the match.  With the score 14-13 Hounds in the fourth, Indianapolis scored five straight to seize control, fueled by back-to-back kills from Kerrigan.  The lead held as UIndy took the set 25-21 for its sixth victory of the season.

Kerrigan finished with a match-high 15 kills, Callahan collected 19 digs and Kristina Hefferan had 11 kills and a person-best seven total blocks.

MATCH 2

Indianapolis earned its third sweep of the season with a 25-16, 25-23, 25-23 win versus California (Pa.).  The Vulcans (2-3), last year's Atlantic Region champs, earned the 14th ranking in the AVCA Preseason coaches' Poll, but a 2-2 showing at the Ferris State Invitational last week dropped them just outside the top 25.

The first set included UIndy runs of 7-1 and 8-2 as the Greyhounds cruised to the 25-16 win to take a 1-0 lead.

Conversely, the final two sets were nail biters.  The Hounds owned a 19-14 advantage in the second before Cal stormed back to pull within one at 22-21.  The teams traded points until the Hounds won the race to 25, with the final point coming on a second-hit kill from setter Cheneta Morrison.

The third set saw UIndy trail for the first time in the match, going down by as much as five at 20-15, but the Greyhounds would allow only three more points while racking 10 of their own to complete the sweep.

Morrison notched her third double-double of the season with 28 assists and 12 digs, Callahan amassed 11 kills, while Hefferan and Hannah Kelzer each hit over .400.

Play at the UNA Classic continues tomorrow with the Hounds (7-0) facing Christian Brothers at 10 a.m. and No. 13 Truman State at 6 p.m..

Note: UIndy is 7-0 for the first time since 1999.
