Hounds open GLVC play with 0-0 tie against UMSL

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-  The UIndy men's soccer team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 0-0 tie against visiting Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday night at Key Stadium.  Sophomore goalkeeper Justin Roberts earned the shutout, recording five saves on the evening.

The first 45 minutes of play was mostly played in the middle of the field as both the Greyhounds and Tritons (0-1-1) each tallied a shot on goal.

In the second stanza, UIndy proved to be the aggressors outshooting Missouri-St. Louis by a 11-5 count.  However, Triton keeper Tim Boruff kept the Hounds off the scoreboard by making seven of his nine saves in the second period.

Neither team was able to sustain much of an offensive attack in the overtime periods as the Greyhound defense limited Missouri-St. Louis to a single shot in the final 20 minutes of play, but the Triton defense was comparable allowing just three shots of their own.

Freshman Max Marsh led the UIndy offensive attack firing six shots with four of them being on net.  Fellow frosh Bobby Adkins contributed with four shots, with two of them being on goal.

The Greyhounds best opportunities came late in the second half in the 64th minute with both Marsh and Adkins were denied by Boruff from close range.  Another quality chance came in the 73rd minute when Roger Lee narrowly missed converting on a long cross from the left side.

Indianapolis returns to action Friday night at 8:30 PM when they travel to Evansville, Ind. to take on GLVC opponent Southern Indiana.  The Screaming Eagles stand at 0-2-0 on the season with a recent 2-1 overtime loss to Northern Kentucky.
