INDIANAPOLIS- Four Greyhound sports are currently ranked in the top 15 nationally in their respective coaches' polls. After the success of the season's start, the UIndy women's soccer and volleyball teams each cracked into the top 20 and sit at 12 and 13, respectively, both marking the school's highest-ever ranks for those sports.
Head Coach Jody Butera's volleyballers are 9-0 and will go for their 10th win tonight, which would tie the school record for consecutive victories to start a season. Moving eight spots since last week, the team is ranked 13th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II poll. UIndy has four players in the top 10 in hitting percentage in the 15-team GLVC and hits .268 as a team, easily the best mark in the league.
The women's soccer team, under the tutelage of Head Coach Geoff VanDeusen, is currently 12th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II poll. The team is a perfect 4-0-0 on the year and has allowed just one goal to date. Senior Amanda Reese leads the squad with three goals while freshman phenom Shelby Spinelli has a team-high eight points thus far. Sophomore keeper Shae Morris has three shutouts to her credit and a miniscule 0.25 goals against average.
Ken Piepenbrink's women's golf team is all the way up to No. 8 nationally, piggy-backing on the team's strong finish last year that saw them tie for third at the NCAA Division II Championships. Bolstered by defending national-champion Lyndsay McBride, the Hounds already have one tournament win and two runner-up finishes in the bag already this fall.
Under the direction of Head Coach Brent Nicoson, the men's golf team is currently ranked 13th in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches Poll. The men open their season this week at the Kiawah Intercollegiate Invitational. Three of the Hounds' top five players from last season are back as the team eyes its third straight league crown and NCAA Championship appearance.
