Women's golf annouces early signees

University of Indianapolis women's golf coach Ken Piepenbrink is pleased to announce the signing of two student-athletes for 2010: Brianna Scheidler of Greensburg Community High School and Amy Thompson of Northwood High School. The young women - who finished fourth and ninth, respectively, at this season's IHSAA State finals - will join the squad as freshmen this fall and will immediately contribute to the excellent tradition of the UIndy women's golf program, both athletically and academically.

Brianna Scheidler won her very first high school meet as a freshman -- the Columbus North Invitational.  That win foreshadowed success throughout for prep career as she went on to be a four-time state finals participant, compiling finishes of 42nd, third, 13th, and finally fourth. As a three-time All-State honoree, Scheidler re-wrote the record books at GCHS as the school's all-time low scorer.  In addition to her time on the links, she has been involved in numerous clubs and activities, including Junior Optimist Club, Art Club, Greensburg Teen Facilitators, Senior Class Vice President, and National Honor Society Vice President.  Scheidler, who plans to study nursing at UIndy, is the daughter of Mark and Paula Scheidler and has a sister, Chelsea, who is also an avid golfer.

Amy Thompson is a four-time team MVP and letterwinner at Northwood High School.  She was a three-time All-Northern Lakes Conference First Team member and two-time conference tournament champion.  Thompson capped a stellar high school career with a ninth-place finish at the IHSAA State Finals while also being selected to the All-State Golf Team.  She is the winner of seven Plantation Junior Golf Tour tournaments and was named Indiana's Mountain Dew Player of the Year in 2008.  Thompson, who volunteers as a middle school assistant golf coach, is an honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society at NHS.  She is the daughter of Alan and Julia Thompson and has a brother, Ryan, who is a freshman at Northwood.  Thompson cites her reason for selecting UIndy stems from the desire to be part of the successful tradition Coach Piepenbrink has upheld and enhanced.

Piepenbrink and his Greyhounds start this year's championship season with a trip the Arizona over Spring Break.  UIndy, ranked fifth in the latest Golf World/NGCADivision II Poll, will particpate in The Shootout at Aguila in Leeven, Ariz. Mar. 5-6 before heading to Mesa for the Ashland Invite at Longbow Mar. 10-11, site of the 2010 NCAA D-II Finals later this spring.
